Our Story

With a family background dating back to colonial India in Pune; Thomas Thrussell was an engineer for the civil service. His son Frank Thrussell then became an engineer in the British Army (R.E.M.E) in the 1940s. In the 1970s Gary Thrussell followed in his father’s footsteps by training as a mechanical engineer in a foundry in England.

Gary went self-employed in 1987, producing small sculptures for private collectors using his metal working skills. In 1999 he set up a new studio in Cornwall UK with his son Thomas Thrussell, named after his grandfather, who trained in metal fabrication and business. Gary and Thomas developed their business to specialise in high quality organic sculpture with the name Thrussells as a symbol of pride in their own heritage.

Gary and Thomas

Thrussells follow a line of metal workers and engineers and have taken their family background to a creative level drawing inspiration from nature and cultural heritage. They work in mild steel, copper, and stainless steel using forging, welding and sheet metal working processes. They create, design and produce bespoke public and private sculpture through consultation with commissioners. Their work can also be found nationwide in public spaces, schools and museums.

Thrussells are available for private commissions and also make their own collection of organic sculpture for exhibitions in gardens, museums, art galleries and stately homes.
