Rook With A Book sculpture on Town Quay in Fowey Cornwall
Isla as she is named and ‘Rook With A Book’ as she is known is a sculpture of a giant bird holding a book.
Thrussells created Isla to celebrate the famous writer Daphne Du Maurier who lived in Fowey and was massively inspired by Cornwall. One of Du Maurier most popular books is a short story called ‘The Birds’ this book was famously adapted for film by Alfred Hitchcock.
Isla the ‘Rook With A Book’ holds in one claw a book titled ‘The Birds’ she stands overlooking the Fowey harbour with Du Maurier’s home of Ferryside behind her just down the river at Bodninic.
